Pakistan vs New Zealand Women’s World Cup 2025: Pakistan Aim to Crush White Ferns’ Semifinal Dreams

Already out of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team will look to upset New Zealand Women’s semifinal chances when the two sides meet on Saturday in a crucial group-stage encounter.

Pakistan’s last outing against England ended in disappointment after rain washed out play, denying them a possible first win of the tournament. Before the interruption, Pakistan had been in control—restricting England to 133/9 in 31 overs and reaching 34 without loss in pursuit of a revised target of 113, when the weather intervened.

With three losses and one no-result, Pakistan sit at the bottom of the table. In contrast, New Zealand Women, the 2000 World Cup champions, remain just outside the top four with three points from three matches.

New Zealand Fight to Stay Alive in Semifinal Race

After early defeats to Australia and South Africa, the White Ferns revived their campaign with a win over Bangladesh, before rain disrupted their clash against Sri Lanka. To stay alive in the tournament, they must win against Pakistan — ahead of tough fixtures versus India (October 23) and England (October 26).

Skipper Sophie Devine has been New Zealand’s standout performer, averaging 86.66 in three innings. Her partnership with Brooke Halliday guided the team to victory over Bangladesh. However, inconsistent form from Suzie Bates, Amelia Kerr, and Georgia Plimmer has increased the pressure on Devine to anchor the innings.

On the bowling front, Devine (3/54) and Bree Illing (2/39) have impressed in recent games, giving New Zealand an edge in crucial middle overs.

Pakistan Seek Redemption

For Pakistan, captain Fatima Sana continues to lead by example. Her four wickets against England showcased her skill and fight. Alongside her, Sadia Iqbal claimed two important dismissals. The duo will again be key if Pakistan are to challenge New Zealand’s experienced lineup.

Pakistan’s bowling, including Marufa Akter and Shorna Akter, has shown promise, but the batting unit will need to step up against a disciplined Kiwi attack.

Weather Could Play Spoiler Again

With light rain forecast on match day, the weather may once again play a crucial role in determining the outcome. A washout would severely dent New Zealand’s semifinal hopes, while Pakistan would look to end their campaign on a high with a morale-boosting win.
