Former India captain Rohit Sharma, now 38, may be in the later stages of his illustrious career — but the dream of the Rohit Sharma 2027 World Cup campaign is still alive. After stepping down from captaincy in all formats, questions surround how long the star opener will continue to represent India.
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik believes that Rohit still has what it takes to play a vital role in India’s 2027 World Cup plans — provided he maintains his fitness and motivation.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik on Rohit Sharma said:
“Ever since losing the 2023 World Cup final, Rohit’s dream was to lead India to a World Cup title — which he finally achieved in 2024 in the Caribbean. That fire still burns inside him, and I believe he wants to win the 50-over World Cup too.”
Karthik pointed out that since the 2023 tournament, Rohit has been remarkably consistent — scoring over 1,000 runs at an average of 48 and maintaining an aggressive strike rate.
“Rohit the batter is vital for India. If he puts his heart and mind to it, I have no doubt he’ll be there in 2027,” Karthik added.
He further praised Rohit’s fearless approach:
“When Rohit is in form, he’s pure poetry in motion. His attacking intent in the Powerplay sets the tone for the innings and gives India a strong foundation.”
Karthik also highlighted Rohit’s maturity and selflessness in recent years:
“He’s evolved beautifully. It’s not about milestones anymore — it’s about setting the tone and leading by example. Even in the World Cup final, his aggressive start showed how important he is to Indian cricket.”
As Rohit gears up for the India vs Australia ODI 2025 series, fans are eager to see if the veteran can maintain his form and fitness — and take part in what could be the historic Rohit Sharma 2027 World Cup journey for Team India.
