Australian batter Travis Head showered praise on Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ahead of the first ODI between India and Australia in Perth on Sunday. The veteran duo, returning to international cricket after over seven months, recently retired from Test cricket, fueling speculation about their participation in the 2027 World Cup to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
During a pre-match media interaction at Optus Stadium, Travis Head spoke alongside India’s all-rounder Axar Patel, offering glowing remarks about Kohli and Rohit’s contributions to white-ball cricket. Head called them two of the greatest limited-overs players ever, adding humor to the conversation when he turned to Axar, seemingly asking for confirmation about the Indian stars’ future.
Axar responded with a priceless smile and laughter, choosing not to reveal anything — a reaction that quickly became a light-hearted moment for fans and journalists alike.
“They’ve been phenomenal for India,” said Head. “Virat is probably the greatest white-ball batter of all time, and Rohit isn’t far behind. I have immense respect for what Rohit has done as an opener. I believe they’ll continue till 2027 (looks at Axar and laughs). It’s great for the sport that both are still playing.”
Axar Patel, meanwhile, backed both veterans to perform strongly in the ODI series, praising their professionalism and preparation.
“They are world-class players who know what’s required. They’ve trained hard, passed their fitness tests, and are ready to go,” Axar said confidently.
As India prepares for the three-match ODI series, the camaraderie between Axar Patel, Travis Head, and the mention of legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma added an entertaining touch to the pre-series buzz — keeping fans eager to see the duo back in action.
