Perth: Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma was spotted having a serious conversation with head coach Gautam Gambhir during Team India’s practice session ahead of the India vs Australia 2025 ODI series, and the video has since gone viral across social media.
This marks Rohit’s first appearance in Indian colors since being replaced as ODI captain by Shubman Gill earlier this month. The BCCI had announced the change while naming the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19 in Perth.
During a press conference, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that he had personally informed Rohit about the decision to hand over the captaincy to the young opener Gill, who now leads both India’s ODI and Test sides.
In a video shared by RevSportz, Rohit was seen engaging in a focused discussion with Gautam Gambhir during practice. The chat reportedly came right after Rohit and Virat Kohli spent nearly 30 minutes batting side-by-side in the nets.
The Indian squad arrived in Perth in two batches earlier this week to prepare for the white-ball series, which includes three ODIs followed by five T20Is starting October 29.
Kohli, who also retired from Test and T20I cricket alongside Rohit earlier this year, was later seen chatting with bowling coach Morne Morkel, followed by a light-hearted exchange with Arshdeep Singh.
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to feature in what could be their last ODI tour of Australia, as their participation in the 2027 Cricket World Cup remains uncertain, depending on their fitness and form.
Despite the leadership shift, new ODI captain Shubman Gill has expressed his full support for the two veterans, praising their experience and impact on Indian cricket.
The team is scheduled for additional training sessions on Friday and Saturday before the opening ODI at Optus Stadium, Perth.
