The Indian cricket team faced unexpected travel delays on their way to Perth, arriving at around 4 a.m. on Thursday — several hours later than scheduled — ahead of the India vs Australia ODI series.
Led by Shubman Gill, Team India will kick off their three-match ODI series against Australia on October 19. The players departed from Delhi Airport early Wednesday, but their flight was delayed by nearly four hours, which also caused a missed connection and a rescheduled flight in Singapore.
Among the first batch of players to reach Australia were Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna, along with key support staff members. The remaining squad members are expected to join them before the team’s first warm-up session.
Upon arrival, the players are set to undergo a brief acclimatisation period before the limited-overs series begins. The white-ball tour includes three ODIs followed by five T20Is, promising a thrilling contest between two of the world’s top cricketing nations.
The ODI series is particularly special as it marks the much-awaited return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to international action after a long break. Their presence alongside new captain Shubman Gill adds extra intrigue to the upcoming matches.
India’s tour of Australia begins with the first ODI at Perth Stadium on October 19, followed by games at Adelaide Oval (October 23) and the Sydney Cricket Ground (October 25). The five-match T20I series starts on October 29.
The last time India played a bilateral ODI series in Australia was during 2020–21, when they lost 2–1 but bounced back to clinch the T20I series by the same margin.
