West Indies Extend Delhi Test to Day 5 as India Chase 58 Runs for Series Sweep

India’s quest for a 2-0 Test series victory over West Indies in Delhi was extended to the fifth day thanks to resilient batting from the visitors. John Campbell and Shai Hope both scored centuries, with Hope marking his first in 58 innings, putting India under sustained pressure. Even the lower order showed grit, as Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales added 79 runs for the final wicket, taking West Indies’ total to 390 in their second innings.

Indian bowlers fought back, with Kuldeep Yadav taking three wickets and Jasprit Bumrah also claiming three to stem the fightback. Despite a flattened pitch that offered little assistance, India bowled a marathon 118.5 overs to finally contain West Indies.

In their chase of 121 runs, India finished the day at 63/1, with KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan at the crease. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell early in the innings, attempting an ambitious shot over long-on, but Rahul and Sudharsan steadied the ship to set up the final day’s run chase.

The Delhi Test showcased both the improvement in West Indies’ batting and the resilience of the Indian bowling attack, with Shubman Gill’s team still in control but challenged more than expected. The fifth day promises an exciting conclusion as India look to secure the series sweep.

Brief Scores:

India: 518/5 decl. (Yashasvi Jaiswal 175, Shubman Gill 129*, Sai Sudharsan 87) & 63/1

West Indies: 248 & 390 (f/o) (John Campbell 113, Shai Hope 103, Justin Greaves 50)

Result: India need 58 more runs to win
